Maths

At Martock Church School, we want every child to develop a love of mathematics and see themselves as successful mathematicians. We believe that strong mathematical understanding begins with secure foundations, and we place great importance on building children's confidence and number sense from the very start of their journey with us.

Through engaging, practical and challenging learning experiences, children develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills that enable them to make sense of the world around them. We encourage curiosity, resilience and a positive attitude towards mathematics, helping children to understand that making mistakes is an important part of learning.

Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure knowledge and skills build progressively from Reception through to Year 6. Daily fluency sessions, explicit teaching of times tables and opportunities to revisit and apply prior learning help children develop secure foundations and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. We aim for every child to become confident in their mathematical thinking, able to explain their reasoning and equipped with the skills they need for the next stage of their education and beyond.

At Martock Church School, we believe that when children enjoy mathematics and have strong foundations in place, they are empowered to achieve their very best.
